The 15% glass-filled PTFE is a plastic composite material made from 85% PTFE and 15% glass fibres. The most popular filler for PTFE is glass fibre, which improves the material’s wear and creep resistance.
The most common glass fibre percentages in PTFE are 4%, 8%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. Other fillers include bronze, carbon, Ekonol, polyimide, and PEEK.
Advantages
The FDA-approved grade of glass-filled PTFE is available. It exhibits little deformation under load, minimal thermal expansion, high compressive strength, and excellent wear characteristics. It has exceptional temperature resistance, which enables it to perform well in oxidising environments.
Application
Medical equipment such as mandrels can benefit from the glass-filled PTFE’s excellent stiffness, wear resistance, and dimensional stability. Other applications include piston rings, gaskets, valve seats, shaft seals, seals, and electrical and chemical components.
The food, mechanical engineering, oil and gas, electronics, and wind energy industries all make use of it.
