Welcome to Learning About Ekonol-Filled PTFE
Ekonol-filled PTFE is a high-performance, self-lubricating composite material made by mixing virgin PTFE with Ekonol filler. This specialised compound avoids standard PTFE’s natural creep tendencies while providing exceptional wear resistance, high-temperature stability, and a completely non-abrasive surface.
Ekonol is an aromatic polyester, commonly known as polyparahydroxybenzoic acid (POB).
Key Performance Benefits
You need to use Ekonol-filled PTFE material if your design demands the following:
Non-Abrasive Friction
Protects soft metal counterfaces like aluminium, brass, or soft stainless steel from abrasive wear.
Extreme Temperature Limits
Operates continuously at temperatures ranging from -200°C up to 260°C.
High Load & Creep Resistance
Resists mechanical deformation, fatigue, and load-bearing flow under extreme pressures.
Self-Lubrication and Low Friction
Delivers a very low dynamic friction coefficient around 0.12.
Ideal for Food and Medical Processing
It is clean and safe, so it can have direct contact with food, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products. It eliminates the risk of dark carbon or bronze dust from high-purity production lines.
Application
Components made from Ekonol-filled PTFE are used in food processing and oil and gas environments. It is suitable for rotary shafts, piston rings, thrust washers and spring-energised seals. It also can be used in oil-free lubrication bearings, as it can eliminate external lubricants in food-safe production.
