Welcome to Know Mylar Sleeve
Mylar sleeves are the most recognised and industry-approved sleeve material. It is the preferred material for bolt isolation, as it provides excellent resistance against galvanic corrosion.
Is Mylar® the Same as Polyester?
The answer is yes. Mylar® is the brand name of polyester film created by DuPont Teijin Films.
Mylar® polyester is an exceptionally strong, durable, transparent film with high tensile, tear, and impact strength. It is moisture- and vapour-resistant and does not transmit oils, greases, and volatile aromatics. It was first developed in the mid-1950s by DuPont.
Advantages
The Mylar sleeve has excellent temperature resistance, strong tear initiation, and puncture resistance. It also has superior chemical resistance and excellent oil, grease, or moisture-barrier resistance.
Applications
The Mylar sleeve is suitable for general electrical insulator applications and bolt protection, as it has excellent dielectric strength and low water absorption. It is also used for many applications, such as electrical insulation and thermal or chemical protection in the electromechanical and automotive industries.
